Today (September 28), China’s offshore wind power industry has gained another powerful tool: the world’s first next-generation 2,000-ton-class offshore wind turbine installation platform—the “Baihe Tan”—was officially delivered and put into operation in Nansha, Guangzhou. This development is of great significance for accelerating China’s offshore wind power industry’s move toward deeper and more distant waters and for promoting the realization of grid parity for offshore wind power.

The “Baihe Tan” is currently the world’s most powerful self-elevating, self-propelled integrated wind-farm installation platform, boasting the highest lifting capacity (2,000 tons), the deepest operational water depth (70 meters), the largest variable payload capacity (6,500 tons), and the largest deck area (4,200 square meters). Core operational equipment—including the lifting system and hoisting system—has all been domestically produced. The vessel measures 126 meters in length, 50 meters in width, and has a molded depth of 10 meters. It integrates multiple functions such as transportation, self-elevation, self-propulsion, lifting, installation, and dynamic positioning. With an installation capacity for offshore wind turbines exceeding 10 megawatts, it can meet the requirements of integrated offshore wind-power construction operations in deep and distant waters.

The “Baihe Tan” boasts four 120-meter-long triangular truss-type jack-up legs, enabling it to stand firmly on the sea during offshore operations. Its maximum operating water depth can reach 70 meters. Additionally, it is equipped with a 2,000-ton-class around-pile crane for lifting wind turbine foundations and turbine equipment, significantly enhancing its capability to construct and install offshore wind turbines in both nearshore deepwater and ultra-deepwater areas, thereby improving operational efficiency.
The vessel is equipped with a DP-2 class dynamic positioning system, which can automatically maintain the vessel’s position and heading even in the event of failure in moving parts or individual systems, thereby significantly enhancing safety during offshore operations. In addition, the vessel employs an all-electric propulsion system with fully reversible propellers, enabling low-carbon and environmentally friendly operations.

The “Baihe Tan” vessel primarily operates in the waters off Guangdong and Fujian, further enhancing China’s capability to construct and install large-scale offshore wind turbine units in deep and distant seas, and providing strong support for China’s subsequent large-scale, contiguous development of deepwater offshore wind power projects.
