Warmly celebrating the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China: Xi Jinping puts forward four hopes for the new Macao Special Administrative Region government.

On the morning of December 20, a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and the inauguration ceremony of the sixth-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region were held. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the country, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the event and delivered an important speech.

Xi Jinping: The new SAR government of Macao should unite and lead all sectors of society to seize opportunities, boldly pursue reform, and take on responsibilities with a sense of mission, thereby better leveraging the institutional advantages of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle and continuously opening up new horizons for high-quality development of the “One Country, Two Systems” cause. Here, I would like to share four hopes:

First, we will focus on promoting moderately diversified economic development.

Second, focus on enhancing the governance effectiveness of the Special Administrative Regions;

Third, we will focus on building a higher-level platform for opening up to the outside world.

Fourth, we will focus on safeguarding social harmony and stability.
