This large-scale control valve, which boasts an internationally advanced level, is being used in China’s offshore oil extraction project at a depth of 1,500 meters underwater. As the leader of the design and manufacturing team, Ma Yushan has devoted ten years of painstaking effort to this project.

Deepwater high-end control valves are critical equipment for deep-sea oil and gas extraction projects. For a long time, China has relied on imports, which has constrained the development of deep-sea oil and gas fields. To break the foreign technology blockade, Ma Yushan led his team in tackling this challenging technical problem. After more than 8,000 repeated trials, they finally succeeded in designing and manufacturing China’s first deepwater high-end control valve capable of operating at depths of up to 1,500 meters. Currently, this equipment has completed installation and sea trials and is now being put into operation.

For more than 30 years, as a Party member, Ma Yushan has consistently taken the nation’s needs as his personal goal. During a period when China’s pump and valve industry was experiencing a severe brain drain among technical personnel and the mid-to-high-end market was almost entirely dominated by foreign products, he resolutely chose to stay put and led his team to obtain over 440 invention and utility model patents, overcoming numerous “bottleneck” challenges.
