Due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic, the U.S. clean energy sector saw over 100,000 job losses in March.

Due to strict measures aimed at controlling the coronavirus that shut down manufacturing and halted home and business upgrade projects, the clean energy sector lost more than 100,000 U.S. jobs in March. In a statement, E2 Executive Director Bob Keefe said, “These figures tell us that clean energy workers are an essential part of the U.S. workforce—and they’ve been hit particularly hard.”
As a result, the job losses in March wiped out all the gains the sector had made since 2019—and even more than that. The analysis forecasts that in the coming months, up to 500,000 jobs could be lost, representing 15% of the clean energy workforce.
With the rise in unemployment, renewable energy lost 16,000 jobs, and the clean vehicle industry laid off 12,000 workers.
